Twins - 20090801

My best friends when I was growing up in Queens were the family across the street, the Danays. They were a big family, but the three kids closest to my age were Barbara, and her twin sisters Jeannie, and Carol.

After we moved I lost track of the Danays for decades but relocated them using the Internet around 1999. I like this snapshot of Jeannie and Carol. I'd love to do something like this in the studio.

Okay, so this is a bit of cheating because it's a set of images and not just one shot. This collection of shots is notable because it represents the first time I figured out how to separate my subjects from the background using a flash and a fast shutter speed.

At the time I had no idea what I was doing, I just stumbled across a combination of settings that did this. But, practice, practice, practice, I have since internalized aperture, exposure, sensitivity and flash to the point where I can do something like this... ON PURPOSE! Oooh! Aaah!

Just a happy moment with our friend Kim at a First Universalist church picnic at Lake Harriet Park.
